When I look at this figure I see lines. The lines of his wrinkled face, the lines of hairs of his beard and moustache, the lines created by the tendons in his neck, the lines of the folds in his shirt. I see these lines as traces of history - of his personal history, linked with the history of humanity. The sides are painting black so this painting may be hung without a frame.
