The
Dust of Living II
Title: The Dust of Living II
Size: 8" x 10"
Medium: Archival Ink
Surface: Acid-Free Archival 140 lb Cold-Pressed Watercolor paper
Year Created: 2007
This
incredibly-detailed ink drawing was inspired by Mexico's
Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. I combined
the simplified black outline of a skull with my usual
funky abstract style to create an artwork that is
strikingly intricate and buzzing with energy. I like
the paradoxical juxtaposition of the classic image
of death and mortality - the skull - portrayed amidst
elaborate abstract designs, which express the fullness,
complexity and joy of life.
