This highly
textured painting is part of my Synchronal Variety
series. These paintings combine decorative abstraction and meticulous
photorealism in a contemporary wabi-sabi aesthetic. Wabi-sabi
refers to the traditional Japanese aesthetic of appreciating
things that are impermanent, imperfect, and incomplete. This
ideal manifests itself in the abstract background of the piece,
which is comprised of many textural layers, overlaid with delicate
designs. This painting features a photorealistic depiction of
a mother sheep and her lamb standing in a field of grass, before
a red and pink decorative background. The designs at the top
and bottom of the piece are done in metallic copper, gold, and
silver, which has lovely reflective qualities.
