This miniature drawing combines abstract and realist elements in a funky contemporary aesthetic. A small robin perches upon an elaborate crimson and lilac abstract design. The background has an elegant floral abstract motif, upon which is superimposed a section of sheet music from Life is a Dance by Strauss. This colored pencil drawing was crafted with many layers of color. Every spot on this piece was made from at least three layers of color! For example, the blue background was created by an initial layer of Lavender, then a coat of French Grey 10%, then another layer of Lavender, then a layer of Ultramarine, and finally a layer of Non-Photo Blue. All of these layers combine to create a piece that is rich and luminous with color. This drawing is very detailed for it's size, which lends the piece an aura of intimacy.
