This highly
textured painting is part of my Synchronal Variety
series. These paintings combine decorative abstraction and meticulous
photorealism in a contemporary wabi-sabi aesthetic. Wabi-sabi
refers to the traditional Japanese aesthetic of appreciating
things that are impermanent, imperfect, and incomplete. This
ideal manifests itself in the textural background of the piece,
which is adorned with ornamental floral and abstract details.
Turquoise metallic paint outlines the middle yellow section.
An oscar fish floats calmly on the surface, observing life.
