This painting
was inspired by my interest in folk art, especially the colorful
art of tribal India. I love to immerse myself in the brightly
colored, exquisitely detailed designs and patterns that can
be found in Kutch embroidery and Mughal miniatures. This painting
reflects the vividness of color and the undeniable exuberance
that are the hallmarks of these types of traditional works.
I created these patterns and color choices to reference the
design qualities of Indian art while bringing the essence to
a modern, contemporary audience through the medium of abstract
art. The sides of this painting are also decorated in the same
manner as the front, so that this painting becomes more of a
three-dimensional objet d'art rather than a flat surface plane.
Each side of the canvas is painted with its own pattern, which
you can see in the pictures below.
