In the fall
of 1999 I spent time in India, visiting the clay and mud homes
of various tribal families. Inside their beautifully decorated
homes, they would unfurl dozens of intricately embroidered handicraft
tapestries, which weremesmerizing and dazzling due to their
colors, patterns, textures, and painstaking detail. My abstract
paintings are deeply inspired by the work of these tribal Indian
artists. Through the frenetic juxtaposition and overlap of colors
and patterns, I create a sense of energy and exuberance on the
canvas that exudes an aura of exotic festivity. The surface
of this painting is very textured (which you can see in the
details below) which provides the painting with a bohemian,
vintage time-worn feel.
